Chemical mechanical pulping is a pulping method that uses chemical pretreatment and mechanical grinding post-treatment. First, conduct mild pretreatment (dipping or cooking) with chemicals to remove part of hemicellulose from wood chips. Lignin is less or almost not dissolved, but the intercellular layer is softened. After that, the disc mill is used for post-treatment to grind the softened wood chips (or grass chips) to separate the fibers into pulp, which is referred to as chemical mechanical pulp (CMP).
